Hamas’ new armed wing chief Mohammed Odeh ‘killed’ in Israeli strike: Reports

According to multiple reports, Odeh was killed in the strike.

An Israeli source confirmed to The Times of Israel and public broadcaster Kan that Odeh had been killed.

Hamas has not commented on the reported targeting of Odeh, and there has been no official confirmation of his death so far.

According to reports, Odeh was one of the alleged architects of the October 7 attack on Israel. He had reportedly replaced Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who was earlier killed in an Israeli strike.

A security official told YNetNews that Israeli authorities believe Odeh did not survive the strike.

Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) shared a video on X claiming that 11 kilometres of underground tunnel routes east of the Yellow Line in the Beit Hanoun area of northern Gaza had been dismantled.

“The area served as a central Hamas terrorist stronghold. An underground network was built beneath residential homes, public institutions and roads, and was used by terrorists to carry out attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops,” the IDF said in its post.

The developments come amid intensified Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon overnight, forcing many residents to flee their homes once again, while humanitarian agencies in Gaza reported continued restrictions on aid entering the enclave, the United Nations said on Tuesday.

Following the airstrikes in Lebanon, families were seen spending the night in their vehicles in the capital Beirut, while some shelters had taken in dozens of displaced families over the past 24 to 48 hours.

Nearly one million people remain displaced across Lebanon following the escalation of hostilities between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants that began on March 2.

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said that, for the first time, the Israeli military had issued an evacuation order on Tuesday for the city of Nabatieh, located north of the Litani River.

A renewed evacuation order was also issued for the town of Mashgara in the Bekaa Valley, where rescue operations are continuing following an Israeli airstrike on Monday night.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said nine attacks on healthcare facilities were recorded between May 21 and May 24, resulting in the deaths of eight health workers and injuries to 45 others.

On May 23 alone, 25 medical staff were injured at Hiram Hospital in Lebanon’s south governorate following several airstrikes in the immediate area.
