Tehran/UNI: A senior member of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps was killed in Syria, the state-owned Press TV reported Tuesday.

Abolfazl Alijani, who served as a military advisor in the war-ravaged nation, was killed in the wee hours of Monday morning, the report said.

Alijani's body will be returned to Iran in the coming days, it added, without providing more details.

Iran has confirmed the presence of its military advisors in Syria at the request of the Syrian government since 2011.
