Lashkar commander dies mysteriously at Islamabad mosque after eating at restaurant

A senior commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has reportedly died under mysterious circumstances at a mosque in Pakistan's Islamabad, days after another operative of the banned terror group claimed that dozens of its members had been killed by "unknown men" across the country.

Qari Saeed Abdul Aziz reportedly ate at an unfamiliar restaurant before heading to Quba Mosque in Islamabad to offer prayers.

He suddenly collapsed near the mosque's entrance and died.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and there has been no immediate official explanation of the cause.

LeT commander handled aid for families

Qari Saeed was reportedly associated with a Lashkar-e-Taiba department responsible for providing assistance to the families of terrorists killed during encounters in Jammu and Kashmir.

His reported death comes at a time when questions have been raised over a series of unexplained killings of LeT operatives in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK).

LeT operative claims 30 members killed

Days before Qari Saeed's death, a video surfaced in which Lashkar-linked operative Rizwan Hanif claimed that around 30 members of the banned organisation had been killed by "unknown men" in different parts of Pakistan.

Hanif claimed that more than 30 LeT terrorists had been killed in places including Peshawar, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Rawalakot and Muzaffarabad.

He reportedly said the killings had taken place over the past three to four years and included members of the organisation operating in Pakistan and PoK.

The claims have not been independently verified.

Lashkar linked to 2008 Mumbai attacks

Lashkar-e-Taiba is the Pakistan-based terror organisation widely blamed for the November 2008 Mumbai attacks, in which 166 people were killed.

The group has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the United Nations since 2005 over its links to Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

The reported death of Qari Saeed, coming amid fresh claims of targeted killings of LeT members, is likely to fuel further speculation about internal and external pressure on the terror network in Pakistan.

However, the circumstances surrounding his death and any possible link to the reported killings remain unconfirmed.
