'We shouldn't wait, must prepare for nuclear weapons use by Russia': Volodymyr Zelenskiy

Kyiv/IBNS: The world should be prepared for the possible use of nuclear weapons by Russia, Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy told journalists Saturday, in what is seen as his repetition of an earlier warning.

"We shouldn't wait for the moment when Russia decides to use nuclear weapons," he said in an interview with Ukrainian news media adding: "We must prepare for that."

He said anti-radiation medicine and air raid shelters would be required to protect people from such attacks.

Zelenskiy said the Russians "can use any weapon, I'm convinced of it".

The interview was relayed by six Ukrainian news websites and also broadcast by the Ukrainian presidency on Telegram.

This comes after Kremlin said it had placed Russian nuclear forces on high alert shortly after Moscow began its attack on Ukraine on Feb 24.

However, the United States says it has not seen any sign of unusual nuclear movements.
