The cold war of 'Ghoti' and 'Bangal' continues from the football field to the kitchen. While the Hilsa fetish dominates the Opar or Eastern part of Bengal border, the obsession with Chingri continues in Epar or Western part of Bengal. But the fate of the two delicacies seems to be inextricable intertwined. To bank on this age old rivalry, De Sovrani Hotel in Kolkata is celebrating Prawn and traditional Hilsa festival called Illish-Chingri Judha. She received a guard of honour from the Kolkata police.The Chief Minister's Police Medal for Outstanding Service were given away during the day to Kolkata Police Commissioner Surojit Kar Purokayastha, Bidhannagar Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and IGP Western Zone Siddhi Nath Gupta. Believing this ideology, singer, performer and lyricist Surojit Chatterjee and Patrabharati Publishers jointly launched ‘Alpo Kathay Goppo’ a collection of 60 short stories Sunday in the presence of novelist Sanjib Chattopadhyay and poet Krishna Basu at Niranjan Sadan.
