Taking to social media Mimi shared a video message hoping "for freedom in its truest sense..."

The excerpt of the message reads, "As we celebrate 75 years of Independence, here's hoping for freedom in its truest sense... For everybody, every single day... Freedom to be vocal. Freedom to love whoever we like. Freedom to choose whatever we want to be.

"Freedom to exercise the right to equality. Freedom to wear what we like. Freedom to genuinely respect my country in my own way. And most importantly, freedom from everything, every shackle that might hinder our unity in diversity. Jai Hind! Proud to be an Indian!! Now and forever...."

Mimi, who is a popular actor in the Bengali film industry, joined politics in 2019 and successfully contested the Lok Sabha polls the same year as a Trinamool Congress candidate.

She is an elected member from the iconic Jadavpur constituency of West Bengal.
