Oscars 2022: Viewers shocked as Will Smith punches Chris Rock on stage

The viewers of the 94th Academy Awards or Oscars 2022 were left shocked after actor Will Smith punched comedian Chris Rock for joking about his wife.

The incident happened when Rock was presenting the best documentary prize.

Rock cracked a joke on Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith by comparing her tightly cropped hair to Demi Moore's appearance in the film G.I.Jane.

The Dolby Theatre, where Oscars are held every year, was left shell shocked when Smith walked up the stage and surprised Rock by punching him.

"Keep my wife's name out of your f*****g mouth," Smith told Rock.

In 2018, Jada had revealed she had been diagnosed with alopecia.

Later after winning the Oscar for Best Actor, Smith, without referring to Rock directly, said with teary eyes, " I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I'm not crying for winning an award. It's not about winning an award for me. It's about being able to shine a light on all of the people."

“Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said about Richard Williams. Love will make you do crazy things," he added.
