Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik have been divorced 'for a few months' now: Tennis star's family
Hyderabad: Sania Mirza’s family has revealed that she has been divorced from Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik for several months now, adding that Malik's recent marriage is his third, media reports said.
On Saturday, Shoaib Malik announced his new marriage to Pakistani TV actor Sana Javed, amid ongoing rumours about his separation from Sania.
A statement from Sania's team confirmed the separation, urging fans to refrain from speculation.
The sports duo, who married in 2010 and have a son named Ihzaan Mirza Malik born in October 2018, officially parted ways some months ago.
In the statement, Sania's team and her family wrote: "Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now. She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead!
“At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy."
Last year, Malik and Sania celebrated their son's fifth birthday in Dubai. Even during Sania's final Grand Slam match at the Australian Open last year, Malik expressed his admiration for her career achievements in a heartfelt note.
The sporting power couple also played hosts on a talk show in the UAE last year.
Recently, Shoaib Malik played for Fortune Barishal in the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League match against Rangpur Riders in Dhaka.
His team won by 5 wickets, marking a successful start to their 2024 campaign.
