Amid on-field rivalries, India, Bangladesh cricketers get united by Rabindranath Tagore

Birmingham July 2 (IBNS): It is a very rare occasion when people witness sports personalities are lining up to sing national anthems of their respective nations which have been penned down by the same man.

Such a moment was witnessed on Tuesday when India and Bangladesh cricketers sang their respective anthems but interestingly both were composed by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

Tagore, one of the iconic writers of India, is equally respected both in this nation and in Bangladesh.

Infact, India's national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' and Bangladesh's 'Amar Sona Bangla' were composed by him.

India and Bangladesh share several common cultural heritage.

It was during independence that Bangladesh was separated from India and became East Pakistan. Bangladesh gained its independence from Pakistan in the 1971 Liberation War.

The independence was declared on Mar 25, 1971. Bangladesh had gained independence from the Pakistan Army after a nine-month war.

Back to the paradigm of cricket, India and Bangladesh are playing a crucial World Cup group stage match on Tuesday.

India have won the toss and opted to bat first. Virat Kohli's men lost their last World Cup match against England on Sunday.
