Thiruvananthapuram, June 22 (IBNS) In a major development, Olympian Anju Bobby George on Wednesday resigned as the president of Sports Council of Kerala.

The move was reportedly made following her spat with state Sports Minister E.P. Jayarajan  earlier this month.

The Olympian announced her decision during the executive committee meeting of the Council, reports said.

Apart from her, other committee members also offered to resign from their posts.

"I've decided to resign from the post of president of Sports Council of Kerala. I can't stand humiliation. I've worked to the best of my ability to improve facilities for the development of sports in Kerala and nurture talents,"  Anju told India Today.

She was appointed to the post in November 2015. Former Kerala Chief Minister  Oommen Chandy-led government was in power during that period.
