Australian Open: Rafael Nadal reaches last 32 stage
Melbourne, Jan 17 (IBNS): Rafael Nadal reached the last 32 stage of the Australian Open with a win against Argentina's Leonardo Mayer here on Wednesday.
The SPanish player defeated his opponent r 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-4).
The clash in Rod Laver Arena was held for two hours 38 minutes.
“It’s an important victory for me against a tough opponent,” Nadal was quoted as saying by the tournament website.
He said: “For not being in competition in a while, it’s the second victory in a row so that is very good news for me. For my team and my family, this tournament is the favourite of the year so I want to stay here as long as possible.”
In the next round, Nadal will face Bosnia and Herzegovina's Damir Dzumhur.
