Imran Khan congratulates India for winning in Australia

Islamabad, Jan 8 (IBNS): Pakistan Prime Minister and former cricket captain, Imran Khan, has congratulated India for beating Australia at their backyard for the first time as a subcontinent team.

Khan, who became the Prime Minister in 2018, took to Twitter to say, "Congratulations to Virat Kohli and the Indian cricket team for the first ever win by a subcontinent team in a test series in Australia"

Five years after taking up his Test captaincy against the same team, Kohli scripted a history by beating a weak Australia in the longest format of the sport.

Though the fourth and final Test ended in a draw, India's 2-1 lead in the series helped them emerge victorious for the first time in Australia.

This is India's first Test series victory in Australia since they started touring the nation in 1947-48.

Former Pakistani fiery pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar too congratulated Kohli and his men. He tweeted, "Congratulations to Team India for a historic series victory Down Under. One of the toughest tours in world cricket is a Test Series in Australia. It was a great effort and they kept Aussies under pressure throughout. "
