India hosting cricket coaching camp for Commonwealth nations

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) A cricket coaching camp for boys and girls under 16 years of age from Commonwealth countries is being held in the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru from October 1 to 30.

As many as 35 participants-18 boys & 17 girls from 16 Commonwealth countries are attending the camp.


The coaching camp which is the first-of-its-kind is being conducted pursuant to the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in April 2018 in London. This is fully sponsored by the Union government.


The girls and boys teams are trained on various aspects of the game by an experienced panel of coaches.


The various components of the training include medical assessment, musculoskeletal screenings, need-based strength training, video analysis, skill assessments and planning among others.


India is a major player in the 53-member Commonwealth engaging the Small States and Small Island Developing States, an MEA statement said here.


This cricket coaching camp is aimed at strengthening bonds among the youth of the Commonwealth countries through the medium of sports, the release said.
