Harare: Mr. Bean, the iconic character played by British actor Rowan Atkinson, remained trending on social media on Thursday as Pakistan and Zimbabwe faced each other in a T20 World Cup Super 12 clash.

Zimbabwe shocked Pakistan by registering a 1 run victory in the clash.

Pakistan recorded two consecutive defeats in the tournament so far, making their way to semi-finals difficult.

India had defeated Pakistan in the first match.

Meanwhile, the Mr. Bean trend became so much popular that even Zimbabwe President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa tweeted: "What a win for Zimbabwe! Congratulations to the Chevrons. Next time, send the real Mr Bean…#PakvsZim."

Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif even gave reply to the President on a lighter note and said: "We may not have the real Mr Bean, but we have real cricketing spirit .. and we Pakistanis have a funny habit of bouncing back :) Mr President: Congratulations. Your team played really well today."

How did the trend begin?

The trend commenced when an internet user named Ngugi Chasura wrote under a post made by Pakistan Cricket Board: "As Zimbabweans we wont forgive you...you once gave us that Fraud Pak Bean instead of Mr Bean Rowan ..we will settle the matter tomorrow just pray the rains will save you...#ZIMVSPAK."

He was actually making reference to the ‘Pakistani Mr Bean’- comedian Asif Mohammad.

The Pakistani comedian reportedly once visited Zimbabwe and performed in a show at the Harare International Conference Centre in 2016.

"However, the show that reportedly cost Zimbabweans $10 each was a complete flop. The people were livid to have ‘lost’ their money at the show and called it a fraud," reports India Today.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag even joined the trend and tweeted to Ngugi: "Bhai kya badla le liya teri team ne Fraud Pak Bean ka. Great revenge #ZimvPak."
