Dubai, Nov 4 (IBNS): A Pakistani batsman has shattered a record set by Indian run machine Virat Kohli on the cricket field.

Pakistan batsman Babar Azam became the fastest batsman in the world to touch 1000 runs in T20 cricket.

Azam touched the milestone during the third and final match of the T20I series against New Zealand.

He scored 79 off 58 deliveries in the match.

It was while touching 48 runs with his willow in the match when Azam shattered Kohli's record to rewrite the history books.

Azam reached the milestone in 26 innings while Kohli had scored 1000 runs in his 27th knock.

PCB official tweeted: "The fastest to reach T20I runs, @babarazam258 is the Man of the Match. #PAKvNZ."

The ICC also congratulated the cricketer over the achievement and posted: "Babar Azam does it again! His 79 has helped Pakistan make 166/3, and in the process he's become the quickest ever player to 1000 T20I runs, beating @imVkohli to the mark by one innings.
