India's star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who met with a car accident late last year, has informed his surgery was a "success" leading to his recovery.

Pant tweeted on Monday, "I am humbled and grateful for all the support and good wishes. I am glad to let you know that my surgery was a success. The road to recovery has begun and I am ready for the challenges ahead. Thank you to the @BCCI, @JayShah & government authorities for their incredible support."

"From the bottom of my heart, I also would like to thank all my fans, teammates, doctors and the physios for your kind words and encouragement. Looking forward to see you all on the field."

Pant was involved in a road accident in the wee hours of Dec 30 as he was driving from Roorkee to New Delhi.

Eyewitnesses and videos that surfaced later showed Pant's car had caught fire but he was able to escape.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) had confirmed that the southpaw had suffered injuries to his head, back and feet.

He had two cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee and has also hurt his right wrist, ankle, toe and has suffered abrasion injuries on his back.

Pant was first admitted to Saksham Hospital near Delhi before being shifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun after his condition was stabilised.

The young cricketer was rescued by a truck driver who was travelling on the other lane of the road.
