Shane Warne defends Michael Clarke from John Buchanan's criticisms
Warne has been particularly vocal about ex-Australian coach John Buchanan's remarks against Clarke and said his claim was ‘absolute rubbish’.
Speaking at Triple M’s Hot Breakfast, a morning radio show, Warne said, “All of this absolute crap from these John Buchanan me types saying the culture of the baggy green has gone backwards under Michael Clarke. What an absolute, absolute, joke and rubbish that is.”
He has strongly condemned the comments from Clarke’s detractors. “Some of the comments and cheap shots form some of these people is ridiculous,” The Sheikh of Tweak said.
Rubbishing claims from potential doubters about Michael Clarke’s ability, the World Cup winning cricketer said, “This guy (Clarke) was an amazing player for Australia and he led the team extremely well.”
Warne, who seldom minces words, spoke about his abhorrence towards John Buchanan.
He said, “John Buchanan, look I've never liked John Buchanan...I don't think that's any secret. For him to say that just proves to me that John Buchanan has absolutely no idea about the game of cricket. He has no idea what it takes to play at the highest level. This guy is a computer guy and lives by words, not actions.”
Earlier, Buchanan had told News Corp, “Players like Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting and others really tried to make the `Baggy Green’ culture something special, but I could sense it was under threat and under Michael’s captaincy I can sense it has disappeared a bit and that disappointed me.”
His quote has created a furor in the cricketing world, bringing in a clear divide between cricketers and their sentiments.
