They're going home! England trolled after World Cup semi-final exit

Moscow, July 12 (IBNS): “They’re going home!”  was the hashtag on social media on Wednesday night after England crashed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Croatia in the second semi-final of the World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Defender Kieran Tripper gave England the lead as early as in the fifth minute of the match before Croatia clawed back their way into the contest with goals from Ivan Perisic (68th minute) and Mario Mandzukic (109th minute) to send the Three Lions crashing out of the tournament.

England have been in the news all throughout the ongoing World Cup and so have their fans, who made their presence felt on social media with, ”Its coming home!” chants.

But their defeat at the hands of Croatia turned the tides on them and people modified the popular chant into a hilarious version of it.

An user tweeted, “Well played Croatia, that was a phenomenal game. Guess it’s not coming home after all. Next time : ) #croatiavsengland”

Famous author Suhel Seth too joined in the act and came up with an interesting statistic.

He tweeted, “Things that didn’t exist the last time #England reached #FIFA semi-finals: iPhone, Facebook, Google, Amazon, Android, Twitter, Instagram, iPod, Yahoo, YouTube, Snapchat, Spotify, Tesla, Skype, Uber, Airbnb, Bitcoin, Fitbit, Emojis, iPad, and….#Croatia !!”

Another user mocked the English team with his tweet, “ITS COMING HOME

ITS COMING HOM

ITS COMING HO

ITS COMING H

ITS COMING

ITS COMIN

ITS COMI

ITS COM

ITS CO

ITS COMPLETELY GONE#CROENG #WorldCupRussia”

Yet many expressed their displeasure at England skipper Harry Kane’s decision to not pass the ball to fellow forward Raheem Sterling, who was at a better position to score.

One tweeted, “Ah well, at least #HarryKane has won the #WorldCup golden boot.

And let’s all be honest, THAT’S the real prize. The big one. The one we all wanted. The one that Harry wanted above all else.

7 goals. What an achievement.”

England were well on course to a final berth after having gained a lot of momentum throughout the competition.

They went past Colombia in the last 16 stage and even passed the Swedish challenge in the quarter-final after they blanked them 2-0. But they failed to make any major impact despite having gained a first-half lead on the night against Croatia and now only have the third-place match against Belgium to look forward to, if they at least have to return, ‘home’ with some pride in a bronze medal.
