UEFA mourns loss of lives in Senegal football stadium tragedy

Nyon, July 17 (IBNS): The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has mourned he loss of lives in a stampede incident at a football stadium in Senegal.

Eight people are known to have died and at least 49 are injured during the tragedy at Demba Diop stadium in Dakar on Saturday.

Condoling the loss of lives in the mishap, the UEFA said in a statement: "UEFA would like to send its condolences to the Senegalese Football Federation following the tragic events which occurred at the Demba Diop stadium in Dakar on Saturday evening (July 15)."

"Eight people are known to have died and at least 49 are injured after a wall collapsed at the end of a match between Stade de Mbour and Union Sportive Ouakam," UEFA said.

The statement further said: "UEFA wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the families of the victims, and also expresses its solidarity with the two clubs and the Confederation of African Football."
