Israel airstrikes kill 200 on hospital premises, many trapped: Gaza officials claim

Israeli air strikes on a Gaza hospital premises sheltering displaced people killed at least 200 on Tuesday, the health ministry in the Hamas-run Palestinian territory said.

"Two hundred to 300 displaced people killed in occupation (Israeli) strikes on the yard" of the Ahli Arab hospital in central Gaza, the ministry said.

"Hundreds of victims are still under the rubble," it said.

The media office of Gaza's Hamas government described the attack as a "war crime".

Thousands of families have flocked to Gaza's overwhelmed hospitals seeking refuge from what seemed like endless Israeli army shelling.

Israel has been bombing targets in Gaza since Hamas militants from the territory attacked southern Israel on Oct 7, triggering a war that has left thousands dead on both sides.

"The hospital was housing hundreds of sick and wounded, and people forcibly displaced from their homes" due to other strikes, a statement said.

Around 3,000 people have been killed in Israeli air strikes across the Gaza Strip since the war erupted on October 7.

Meanwhile, at least 15 journalists lost their lives in the 10-day Israel-Hamas war, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported. Of the 15 journalists who lost their lives, 11 were Palestinian, three were Israeli, and one was Lebanese. Eight journalists have been reported as injured, while three are currently listed as missing or detained.
