Canada: Two victims of Saskatchewan bus crash misidentified

Regina, Apr 11 (IBNS): Two victims of the Saskatchewan bus crash, which occurred on Friday, were misidentified, media reports said.

Xavier Labelle (18), who has actually been injured, was mistakenly said to be dead in the crash.

On the other hand, Parker Tobin, whose age is also same as Xavier, is dead though he was reported to be injured.

The Saskatchewan police admitted their mistake a day after releasing the complete list of deceased people.

Saskatchewan Justice Ministry spokesman, Drew Wilby, told BBC, "I can't imagine putting myself in those families' shoes to first get the notice that their loved ones had been in a collision of this nature and to find out who they had thought was their loved one wasn't actually their loved one."

"A lot of these boys looked alike - they had the [dyed] blond hair in support of their team for the play-off run, they're very similar builds, they're all very similar ages, and they're very athletic of course" he added.

Fifteen people including Humboldt Broncos head coach, Darcy Haugan, have been killed as a bus carrying the junior hockey team crashed with a truck in Saskatchewan highway on Friday.,

The victims include players Adam Herold, Connor Lukan, Evan Thomas, Jacob Leicht, Jaxon Joseph, Logan Boulet, Logan Hunter, Logan Schatz, Stephen Wack, Parker Tobin, team personnel Brody Hinz, Darcy Haugan, Glen Doerksen, Mark Cross and Tyler Beiber.

The team was on its way to Game 5 of a semi-final against the Nipawin Hawks, also in Saskatchewan, when the crash occurred around 5 pm Friday.

In a statement, the RCMP said, “The Coroner’s Office and the RCMP want to extend their deepest sympathies to the families and friends of those who lost their lives as well as those who were in the collision.”

Condolences poured in from every part of the country.

A visibly distraught president of Humboldt Broncos, Kevin Gringer, said that “it would be hard to process everything that has taken place over these last few days.”

He thanked the first responders and the medical personnel who stood by the injured at their hour of need.
