ED recovers massive cash from Kolkata businessman in gaming app scam

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting searches on six locations in connection with an investigation linked to an alleged case of fraud through a mobile gaming app.

The Central probe agency is raiding the premises of businessman Amir Khan's house in the Garden Reach area of the city and so far recovered Rs 12 crore in cash and other property documents.

"ED has been carrying out search operations under the provisions of the PMLA, 2002 (on 10.09.2022) at 06 premises in Kolkata, in respect to an investigation relating to the Mobile Gaming Application.  Huge cash (More than Rs 7 Crore) has been found at the premises," the probe agency said in a statement.

Detailing the alleged fraudsters' modus operandi, the ED said, "Further, after collecting handsome amount from the public, all of a sudden, the withdrawal from the said App, was stopped, at one or the other pretext viz. system upgradation, an investigation by LEAs etc. Thereafter, all data including profile information was wiped off from the said App servers and only then the users understood the ploy."
