Lucknow/UNI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Saturday directed officials to make all necessary arrangements in time keeping in mind the convenience of devotees at the ghats for the Chhath festival.

The Chief Minister told a meeting here: "It should be our endeavour that maximum facilities are available to every fasting devotee so that the festival is conducted smoothly."

He said that a large number of devotees participate with family members.

"In such a situation, systematic arrangements should be made for public facilities including cleanliness, security, adequate lighting, parking, mobile toilets and drinking water on the Ghats. All arrangements should be made keeping in mind the local requirements," he said.

Yogi said that on the occasion of Chhath, there is a tradition of offering 'Arghya' to the setting sun and the rising sun.

"There should be adequate lighting around the river Ghats. Uninterrupted power supply should be ensured during the festival. Keeping in mind the depth of the river, safe areas should be marked," he said.

The Chief Minister directed that there should be adequate availability of water in the rivers, ponds and other reservoirs.

He said that there is a tradition of fireworks during Chhath Puja. "While respecting the faith of the people, their safety should be taken care of. Make sure that the fireworks are used away from the crowd," he said.
