IndiGo flight with 194 onboard makes emergency landing in Rajkot after smoke detected in cargo hold

The aircraft landed safely, allowing all passengers onboard to disembark without reported injuries.

The incident prompted Rajkot airport authorities to declare a full emergency after the flight crew alerted the airport about smoke detected in the cargo hold.

Smoke detected in cargo hold

The Airbus A321 aircraft, operating as IndiGo flight 6E 1452, was carrying 194 passengers when the crew detected smoke in the cargo hold.

The pilots subsequently contacted Rajkot airport, following which airport authorities activated a full emergency response to facilitate the aircraft’s safe landing. The aircraft landed safely at Rajkot, and all passengers were able to leave the plane.

Rajkot airport director Diganta Borah confirmed the incident.

“An IndiGo flight operating from Dubai to Mumbai made an emergency landing at Rajkot airport after smoke was detected in the cargo hold area. The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers are safe,” Borah said.

All passengers evacuated safely

The emergency landing was carried out after the crew identified the smoke and informed airport authorities.

The 194 passengers subsequently disembarked safely after the aircraft reached Rajkot airport.

The incident involved the cargo hold rather than the passenger cabin, according to the information provided by airport authorities.

The flight’s movement between Mumbai and Dubai was affected by the emergency diversion to Rajkot.

IndiGo operates an extensive network covering more than 80 domestic destinations and over 30 international destinations.

The airline operates Airbus A320 and A321 series aircraft as well as ATR 72-600 turboprop planes.
