Kolkata/IBNS: A woman Maoist leader carrying a Rs 15 lakh reward on her head was arrested by Kolkata Police from the North Kashipur police station area of Kolkata on Tuesday.

The arrested woman has been identified as Shraddha Biswas, also known by her alias Bela.

She is a resident of Chakdaha in Nadia district and is wanted in multiple Maoist-related cases in neighbouring Jharkhand.

Wanted in 23 cases in Jharkhand

According to police, Shraddha Biswas has 23 cases registered against her in Jharkhand.

The Jharkhand government had announced a Rs 15 lakh reward for information leading to her arrest.

Investigators said she allegedly played a coordinating role in Maoist activities across Jharkhand and West Bengal.

Police sources added that she had recently arrived in West Bengal and was staying in Bhangar before shifting to the North Kashipur area.

Arrested following intelligence input

Kolkata Police launched the operation after receiving specific intelligence about her presence in North Kashipur.

Officers detained her on Tuesday and took her into custody for further interrogation.

Addressing a press conference, Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Nanda confirmed the arrest.

“She was arrested from the North Kashipur police station area. Shraddha is a resident of Chakdaha in Nadia. There are 23 cases registered against her in Jharkhand. If required, Jharkhand Police will come and interrogate her,” he said.

Another Maoist leader surrenders

In a separate development, another Maoist leader, Madhai Patra, surrendered before the authorities.

Officials said he had been associated with Maoist activities for several years.

After surrendering, Patra urged Maoist members still operating in forested areas to return to mainstream society.
