The Violin Player sensation Ritwik plans to work from Bengal only

"Yes  I had literally enjoyed doing the role of a violinist who plays Hindi tunes in the film. I love doing serious roles and The Violin Player is a serious film. As my debut Hindi project, which I landed only because of my work in Bengali films, 

"The Violin Player gave me national recognition. Bigger audiences, But I am not hankering for roles in Hindi films. I would rather wait for my turn and will meanwhile concentrate in Bengali industry," Ritwik told IBNS on location shoot of Bengali film Bibaho Diaries.'

"At the end of day I am an actor of Bengali film. And this tag is more important for me," he said adding the screening of The Violin Player, directed by  Bauddhayan Mukherji, at KIFF was like homecoming of sorts being feted by your own audience.

"I got offers from Bengali directors based in Bollywood but I am on the lookout for good script," he said..

Ritwik, who was equally happy to do comedy roles, rued the fact that he was given little space to explore this genre after Cross Connection in 2009.

"Now after all these years I am again happy to etch out an outwardly humorous role in 'Bibaho Diaries' by old friend Mainak Bhowmik with whom I share a camaraderie," the 'Shabdo' sensation said adding it was a romantic comedy bearing the stamp of 'Maach Mishti & More' director.

"In Bibaho Diaries  I again have Sohini Sarkar as my co-actor with whom I had previously worked in Phoring, Har Har Byomkesh, Byomkesh Pawrbo and I can say the more I get to work with her the chemistry shows on screen. She is a natural actor."

"In fact I think there should be proper tuning between an actor, his/her co-actors and the director at the same time in a film," he said.

Director Mainak said "none other than Ritwik could do the role I visualised and he binds the whole plot."

"Audience will discover a new side of Ritwik in 'Bibaho Diaries'," Mainak said to which Ritwik replied, "May I return the compliment by saying Mainak remains very, very cool and unstressed on the floors." 

The actor, who felt having theatre background helped him in a way, was also working in a Bengali film Chilekotha (Attic) where he etched out the protagonist Animesh, having travelled through the phase of 1946 to 1971 in Bengal and chronicled the 'krantikal' (crucial transition).
