Bangladesh: 7,087 infected, 53 die of COVID-19 in 24 hrs
Dhaka/UNI: Bangladesh government on Sunday reported 7,087 more coronavirus cases, the highest number of infections in a day, bringing the total number to 6,37,364.
The second highest record of daily infections was 6,830 and the third 6,469 reported respectively on April 2 and April 1.
In the last 24 hours, 53 new deaths from the virus were recorded. With this, the country's coronavirus death tally stood at 9,266.
The health directorate made the disclosure in a press release today.
Of the total patients, 5,52,482 recovered, with 2,707 made recovery in the last 24 hours.
The daily count came from a test of 30,724 samples in the past day.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8 last year. Since then it has been struggling to curb the spread of the highly contagious virus.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then its outbreak was seen across the world.
However, the epidemic infected 131,481,435 people and killed 2,861,440 across the globe to date, according to Worldometer, a website that compiles coronavirus cases and deaths.
The total number of people who recovered from the deadly virus reached 105,890,129 across the world.
