Confident that coronavius vaccine will be ready in 3-4 months: Dr Harsh Vardhan

New Delhi/IBNS: Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said he is confident that the coronavirus vaccine will be ready in three to four months and the vaccine will be given to 135 crore Indians after scientifically evaluating who should receive the vaccine first.

He made the above remarks in the FICCI FLO webinar on ''The Shifting Healthcare Paradigm During and Post-Covid'' today.

The health minister said the health workers will be given the vaccine first, followed by the elderly and the disease-prone persons, adding that the entire prioritisation plan will be based on scientific data.

He said a very detailed planning is being for vaccine dissemination and an e-vaccine intelligence platform is in place to work on its blueprint.

There will be deep tracking and tracing of the vaccine once it is available.

He said the Central government has tackled the pandemic very well, beginning with Prime Minister's decision to call Janata Curfew, which was an innovative and unique experiment, followed by the lockdown and then the phase-wise unlock.

Underscoring the government's proactive response to fight the spread of the disease, he said all seaports, airports and land borders were put under surveillance well in time.

In the last 11 months India has been among the top countries to have controlled the spread of the pathogen in a very short while, he said. Though there was a shortage of PPE kits, N-95 masks and ventilators initially, in a few months India was able to export these essentials to other countries struggling with the pandemic.

India's performance has been excellent on all the parameters set by the World Health Organisation (WHO), highest recovery rate and the least fatality rate, 2,115 Covid laboratories in almost every corner of the country, over 20 lakh dedicated COVID beds are in place, the minister said.

Dr Harsh Vardhan hoped 2021 would be a better year for everyone.
