New Delhi/IBNS: India recorded the biggest single-day jump with 78,761 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours which took the country's tally to 35,42,733, the Union Health Ministry said on Sunday.

During this period, the country witnessed 948 deaths linked to the highly contagious disease, taking the total number of fatalities to 63,948.

There are about 7,65,302 active cases in the country while 27,13,933 patients have recovered so far.

This comes as the Centre announced the Unlock-4 guidelines on Saturday which paved the way for metro services to resume from Sept 7.

The government also permitted social events with a maximum of 100 people from Sept 21 while the lockdown in all containment zones (where Covid-19 cases are reported) have been extended till 30th of the same month.

India is the third worst-hit nation worldwide after the United States and Brazil.
