With nearly 11,000 new Covid cases and 58 deaths, West Bengal sees biggest-ever daily spike

Kolkata/IBNS: For the first time since the Covid-19 outbreak, West Bengal on Wednesday reported 10,784 fresh infections and 58 Covid-related deaths on a single day, reports said. 

According to a bulletin issued by the state health department, Bengal's Covid tally has mounted to 6,88,956, including 63,496 active cases, 10,710 fatalities and 6,14,750 recoveries. 

The bulletin read that 5616 Covid patients had been discharged in the past 24 hours though the state's Covid-19 recovery rate had further fallen to 89.23 per cent.

West Bengal has tested 99,50,336 samples to date with 50,014 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, CPI-M leader Sujan Chakraborty, and Congress MP and its West Bengal president, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, reportedly tested positive for novel coronavirus on Wednesday.

Amid the massive spike in Bengal, Malbazar area of Dooars have imposed indefinte night curfew with only emergency services to ply during that period.
