Gujarat Poll unprecedented in BJP's history: PM Modi
New Delhi, Dec 18 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may have fallen short of the 100 mark in Gujarat despite a win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi felt the poll in his home state is unprecedented in the saffron party's history.
Addressing the party workers in New Delhi, Modi said: "Gujarat Poll is unprecedented in BJP's history."
"Normally editorials are written when a party is voted back after five years but BJP is winning in Gujarat since 1995. We won all Vidhan Sabhas and Lok Sabhas for last 22 years on development. It is a new vision in Indian politics."
While the BJP has reduced by 16 seats from 2012 poll in Gujarat, Modi tried to enthuse his party workers by saying he is doubly happy to see local BJP leaders have succeeded him well after 2014 (Modi became PM in 2014).
"Personally, I am doubly happy on BJP's win in Gujarat. Normally when a state's main face moves out, lot of comparisons are drawn and it becomes tough. But I am happy to see the way Gujarat leaders succeeded me."
Modi, the former Gujarat CM, won the 2012 state poll with 115 seats. BJP in 2017 poll could manage to win 99 seats, lowest in last 22 years. Congress settled for 80 seats.
The Prime Minister did not leave an opportunity to dig at Congress who had lost Himachal Pradesh to the saffron party after five years.
Taking a swipe at Congress, the PM said: "People have shown if a party doesn't work for development and get involved into wrong things, they will not accept after five years. People of Himachal voted in favour of development."
The BJP won 44 seats as opposed to Congress' 21 in Himachal. However, BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate Prem Kumar Dhumal lost his seat.
With the victory in Himachal, now 19 states are under the belt of BJP.
