Vijay Rupani likely to retain Gujarat CM post, announcement today

Ahmedabad, Dec 22 (IBNS) : Vijay Rupani is likely to  return as Chief Minister maintaining a status quo in Gujarat  as BJP MLAs will meet in Ahmedabad on Friday to decide their leader.

According to media reports, Nitinbhai Patel is also likely to serve another term as Deputy Chief Minister, though there may be another person sharing the status and responsibility with him this time.

Ahead of the crucial meeting of newly elected BJP MLAs in Gandhinagar on Friday evening,  CNN-News18 reported  that the two deputy chief ministers will be picked keeping caste equations in mind.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the central observer for the process, is likely to convey the CM choice of party chief Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the MLAs.

Rupani, along with deputy CM Nitin Patel and other cabinet members, tendered his resignation at the Raj Bhavan, paving the way for a new BJP government in the state.

In the recently concluded polls, BJP retained power by winning 99 seats-16 less than what it had in the last Assembly, in the 182-member House,  while the Congress claimed 77
.
Six seats went to others, including three Independents.
