Incheon: 17th Asian Games declared open

Incheon, Sept 19 (IBNS): With a spectacular opening ceremony, the 17th Asian Games commenced its journey at the main stadium here on Friday.

The games was declared open by South Korean President Park Geun-hye.

With more than 13,000 competitors from 45 countries participating in the event, the games will see some spectacular performances in the upcoming days.

Considered as the second biggest multi-sports spectacle after the grand Olympic Games, a  nearly 700-strong contingent will represent India in the event. Indian athletes had performed well in the recently held Commonwealth Games.

India athletes along with players from other teams marched to the stadium during the opening ceremony which was witnessed by 60,000 spectators in the stadium.

New Delhi had hosted the first Asian Games in 1951.

The Gangnam-style famed Psy charmed the audience with his electrifying performance during the ceremony.
