Mumbai/IBNS: India captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first in the inaugural One Day International (ODI) against Australia here on Friday.

Pandya, India's regular vice-captain, is leading the team in absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma in the first of the three matches.

Pandya said he along with three quick bowlers Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj will handle Team India's pace battery.

Australia captain Steve Smith said Josh Inglis will play in place of Alex Carey, who is sick and has gone home.

Mitch Marsh will open the batting for the yellow brigade in place of David Warner, who is yet to be fully fit.

Before the ODI series, India won the Test series, dubbed as Border Gavaskar Trophy, 2-1.
