Pune FC-SGFI: Maharashtra U19 boys shock Odisha
The Maharashtra boys overcame the spirited resistance of Odisha 1-0 in a Group-D encounter at the Pune FC Training Pitches, Mamurdi, while the girls pushed aside Punjab 5-4 via the tie-breaker after playing out regulation time sharing four goals.
The hero of Maharashtra boys was Farukh Chaudhary who netted the all-important winner in the 56th minute of the match.
At the Balewadi Sports Complex, Maharashtra girls did well to take the advantage twice through the Pawar sisters Aishwarya (12th) and Vaishnavi (36th) before a fighting Punjab rallied to equalise. The Punjabi girls had Manpreet Kaur (14th and 40th) bail them out.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Maharashtra had Abeer Azbiwala, Suman Salia, Vaishnavi Pawar convert from the spot, while Manpreet Kaur and Ramandeep Kaur earned success for the losers.
The win thus enables the hosts complete a hat-trick of wins in their openers after the Under-19 girls had won their game yesterday.
