R Ashwin, who hammered a match-winning hundred in the first innings, put up his all-round display and took six wickets to help India beat Bangladesh by 280 runs on the fourth day of the first Test match in Chennai on Sunday.

With a tough challenge of 515 runs to win the match, Bangladesh resumed the day's proceedings at 158 runs for the loss of four wickets. Indian bowlers, especially Ashwin dominated the proceedings, to bowl out the visitors for 234 runs in 62.1 overs.

With the victory, India is now leading the series 1-0.

Once the overnight pair of skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who top scored with 82 (127 balls, 8x4, 3x6) and Shakib Al Hasan (225, 3x4) were separated an hour into the day's play, Ashwin and left arm sinner Ravindra Jadeja, who struck in tandem claiming three wickets,  ripped through the opposition batting lineup that struggled against spin attack.

Unable to take control of the innings, Bangladesh lost their last six wickets for 50 runs.

Ashwin started the slide removing Shakib and Jadeja got rid of Litton Das three overs later.

Despite Shanto trying his best to stitch the innings with his 82, the Bangladeshi batting lineup fell like pack of cards at the end of the day which eventually surrendered to India.

Earlier, Ashwin, who scored a sublime 113 in the first innings and bailed put India from a precarious 144 for six along with Ravindra Jadeja (86), finished with figures of six for 88.

Adding to his three wickets yesterday, Ashwin's today's spell read 6-0-25-3, while Jadeja who bowled unchanged along with Ashwin, finished with three for 58.

Ashwin was declared the player of the match for his fine all round performance.

With this win, India continues to lead the World Test Championship stable with seven wins in 10 matches with a winning percentage of 71.67.
