West Indies pulls out of India tour, Lanka fills in
Mumbai, Oct 17 (IBNS): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) were in for a rude shock when West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) decided to pull out of the remaining of India tour due to the ongoing payment dispute with its players. It has been learnt that West Indies will return home immediately after the fourth ODI vs India at Dharamsala on Friday.
Releasing a press statement, BCCI Secretary Sanjay Patel said, The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has informed the BCCI of its decision to cancel the rest of its ongoing tour to India because of a dispute with its players, and has advised the BCCI that its players will return home immediately.
BCCI is shocked and extremely disappointed at the decision taken by the WICB.
The WICB’s inability to resolve internal issues with its players and allowing the same to affect an ongoing bilateral series does not reflect well on any of those involved.
The withdrawal gives little thought to the future of the game, the players and the long standing relations between the BCCI and the WICB.
The BCCI wishes to inform all its stakeholders, especially ardent fans of the Indian cricket team, that this is a unilateral decision taken by the WICB and its players, in spite of several appeals to the WICB to honour its commitment and complete the series.
The BCCI will pursue all options available to protect its rights, whilst seeking appropriate action from the ICC to ensure that its interests and those of the game at large will not suffer any damage due to such acts of indiscretion.
BCCI Vice President Anurag Thakur told media that BCCI will also see if India should play with West Indies in the future.
He also said that other boards will think twice before playing with West Indies.
Later BCCI said that Sri Lanka have agreed to play 5-match ODI series with India between Nov 1-15.
Sanjay Patel said, Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed a five-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka, to be played from 1 November 2014.
The series promises to be an exciting one, with Sri Lanka placed 4th in the world rankings in ODIs. India is ranked 3rd, with only 2 points separating the teams.
The details of the venues and fixtures will be announced soon.
He said, The BCCI wishes to thank SLC for its swift response and for extending its support to ensure that the international cricket season is not curtailed.
