Amnesty International has demanded the immediate restoration of micro-blogging site X in Pakistan.

The social media platform, X, formerly Twitter, was blocked in Pakistan on 17 February 2024 and has remained blocked since then.

This came a week after mobile services were shut down across the country on election day, 8 February 2024, read the Amnesty International website.

Amnesty International said it is one of 28 civil society organizations that have signed a joint statement calling for immediate restoration of the platform.

The group posted on X: "It has been 29 days since the Government of Pakistan has blocked access to “X”, formerly known as Twitter, in the country."

"Amnesty International is one of 28 civil society organizations that have signed a joint statement calling for immediate restoration of the social media platform, and urge the Pakistani authorities to uphold the rights to freedom of expression and access to information under the country’s international human rights commitments," group said.
