Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman calls incumbent parliament a 'product of rigging'

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman has said the people of Pakistan could not recognise the incumbent parliament of the country as it is a product of ‘rigging’.

In a statement, the JUI-F chief said that the newly elected parliamentarians are not representatives of the people but a product of rigging, reported ARY News.

He said that the General Elections 2024 is the most ‘rigged’ polls in the country’s history, vowing to carry out a country-wide movement against the same.

He said the February 8 voting shattered the trends of 2018 polls which were according to him considered as most ‘manipulated’ in the history of the country.

Shehbaz Sharif  elected Pakistan's PM

Pakistan's National Assembly on Sundayelected Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz's Shehbaz Sharif as the 24th elected prime minister of the country, ending the political deadlock in the nation which was created after none of the political outfits won a majority after national polls last month.

The election process was held amid a ruckus created by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC).

"Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has been elected prime minister with 201 votes. [While] Omar Ayub obtained 92 votes," announced Speaker Ayaz Sadiq as quoted by Geo News.

Sharif held the post of PM after PTI chief Imran Khan was ousted from power in 2022.

Sharif was in power till August when the country's parliament was dissolved ahead of polls.

Pakistan has been ruled by a caretaker government since then.

After his election,Sharif promised to 'steer Pakistan' back to the shore as the nation continued to struggle financially.

“There are talented people sitting in this Parliament who can steer Pakistan’s ship to the shore […] these include journalists, intellectuals, politicians, religious leaders,” Sharif was quoted as saying by Dawn News.
