BYJU's cuts off 1,000 more jobs: Report

Bengaluru: Ed-tech company BYJU’s laid off 1,000 more employees in a fresh round of layoffs, media reports said.

The company axed nearly 15 percent of all engineering teams have been fired, over 1,000 employees, Business Today reported citing a source.

The report said citing an employee, a fresher, who is among the fresh batch of employees fired by the ed-tech company.

According to the report, earlier BYJU’s handed pink slips to 30 percent of its engineering team, and an additional 15 percent were laid off yesterday.

Earlier, BYJU’s announced it would not renew partnerships with BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), ICC (International Cricket Council), and FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association).

After taking over the sponsorship from Oppo in 2019, the company paid Rs 4.61 crore per bilateral match and Rs 1.51 crore per match to BCCI. It had paid for a reported $55 million (Rs 454 crores) to renew its contract with the BCCI. To become the official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup, it had spent $40 million (Rs 330 crore).
