Delhi High Court orders SpiceJet to pay $1.58 million to engine lessors by May 22: Report

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court directed SpiceJet on Friday to remit $1.58 million to its engine lessors Team France and Sunbird France by May 2 even as it acknowledged negotiations between the budget carrier and the lessors are ongoing, with final settlement terms yet to be established, media reports said.

Justice Pratibha Singh observed SpiceJet's clarification that it was using all three engines, with one briefly grounded for maintenance, reported Economic Times.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the HC granted the troubled airline a final opportunity to pay Rs 50 crore to its engine lessors, cautioning that failure to do so could result in grounding two engines.

The current outstanding dues amount to $10.84 million. Since the suit was filed in December, SpiceJet has disbursed over $5 million. Senior counsel Sandeep Sethi reiterated the carrier's commitment to payment and provided a payment timeline, the report said.

Team France and Sunbird France approached the court in December, alleging non-payment of past dues for over two years by SpiceJet.

They sought to prevent the carrier from using their three engines post-lease termination, along with compensation, according to the report.
