Engineering Exports from India registers a growth of 14. 51% in the first quarter

Kolkata, Aug 22 (IBNS): Engineering Export Promotion Council of India (EEPC) felicitated and honoured 40 top performers from the eastern region including Exide, Patton, Usha Martin, Skipper, DCPL, etc for their significant contribution and outstanding performance in different engineering export categories in global markets and for emerging as leading exporters from India in the 33rd Eastern Region Award function held in Kolkata today.

Congratulating the award winners, the Chief Guest,Tathagata Roy the Governor of Tripura said that in spite of hurdles and obstacles, significant contributions made by our exporters is a matter of pride and it encourages others to take active part in nation building.

He stated that infrastructure in Eastern region is deplorable and it needs to be improved to provide better opportunities to our exporters to contribute in developing the region by creating job opportunities for the local people.

He cited the example of Tripura where rubber and natural gas are found in abundance and fruits like pineapple are cultivated in vast areas of land.

Roy emphasised that industries should be established in Tripura to utilize these resources and food processing industries should be set up there to create jobs for locals.

He also appealed car manufactures to think of setting up motorcar industry units in Eastern region also like other parts of the country so that this region can also make significant progress.

Damiano Francovign, the Consul General of Italy in Kolkata said that International Market has opened new doors for domestic players to compete with the international companies.

He said, Indian companies are playing major role and making significant contributions in global markets.

India and Italy can benefit through bilateral trade and bilateral cooperation between India and European Union must be strengthened to boost trade, he added.

India’s engineering exports are being led by metals, electrical equipment, automobile and components, aggregating $ 17.68 billion during the first quarter of current financial year where it clocked a growth of 14.51% over the same period of last year.
