New Delhi, Oct 4 (IBNS): Delhi International Airport (Pvt) Ltd, a GMR led consortium, and Vodafone, one of India’s leading telecom service providers, have partnered to provide state-of-the-art, high speed Wi-Fi services at both terminals of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi.

Following successful trials over three months, the service is now launched and available for fliers to use at the IGI airport.

The IGI Airport is India’s only airport to offer such value added service wherein fliers, who use Vodafone’s pre-paid or post-paid mobile services, can enjoy complementary Wi-Fi facilities at both terminals of the airport.

Vodafone customers going in for a 1GB and 2GB, 3G or 4G pack or recharge, will get 1GB free Wi-Fi which can be used at India’s largest Wi-Fi zone at the IGI airport or any other Wi-Fi zone powered by Vodafone. The free 1GB Wi-Fi offer is also applicable on Vodafone U recharges of 1GB and above.

Commenting on the development, I Prabhakara Rao, CEO-DIAL, said “DIAL has always created new value propositions for its customers through partnerships with global players for enriching the experience of Airport customers. Continuing with the same tradition, DIAL has now enabled Mobile Data Offload service platform at the Airport that promises to make internet access on mobile devices both fast and simple. Our strong partnership with Vodafone shall also ensure Airport customers get to experience the best quality internet service using Airport’s robust Wi-Fi Network, the largest single Wi-Fi hotspot in India. The service is expected to become a favourite with the customers’ as more and more operators join the service platform."

Speaking about the benefits of Wi-Fi,  Sandeep Kataria, Director – Commercial, Vodafone India, said, “With customer needs evolving from voice to data, Wi-Fi is an effective technology to provide seamless connectivity to a large group of consumers in a defined space. Over one lakh inbound and outbound travellers use the IGI Airport each day. Our endeavour to offer Wi-Fi at the airport, will keep these travellers confidently connected on multiple devices, while they are transiting. Flying in and out of Delhi, will now be more fun for Vodafone customers who can also enjoy this free 1GB Wi-Fi seamlessly.”
