Indian Market: Sensex moves up by 740.34 pts

New Delhi: Extending gains for the third straight session, the BSE Sensex on Wednesday spurted 740.34 pts to close at 58,683.99 following progress in peace talk between Russia and Ukraine.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) rose 172.95 pts at 17,498.25. The day opened on a strong note at 58,362.85, surging 419 pts in opening session.

During the day it was rallied by 784 pts at 58,727.78, days high before closing at 58,683.99, up 740.34 pts from its previous close.

The Sensex registered days high and low at 58,727.78 and 58,176 pts respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,522.50 and 17,387.20 respectively.

The sectoral indices like Realty, Bankex, Auto, IT and Finance kept the market strong for the third consecutive session today.

In 30 scrips of bundle, Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Finance shot up by more than three percent, as Bajaj Finserv went up by 3.82 pc at Rs 17,127.50, a top gainer followed by Bajaj Finance by 3.09 pc at Rs 7254, M& M by 2.58 pc to Rs 793.15, Powergrid by 2.49 pc at Rs 216.45 and Nestle India by 2.20 pc at Rs 17,295.55.

While, the losers were ITC by 2.16 pc to Rs 249.15, Tata Steel by 1.98 pc to Rs 1307.95, Tech Mahindra by 1.69 pc to Rs 1496.15 and Bharti Airtel by 0.68 pc at Rs 749.40.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.78 pc and Small Cap by 1.09 pc. In 30 scrips, 21 advanced while 9 declined.

European stocks advanced following the latest round of talks between Russia and Ukraine.

The pan-European Stoxx 600 fell 0.8 per cent while oil and gas stocks rose 1.7 per cent.

On Wall Street, Dow Jones and S&P 500 Futures were down 0.3 per cent each. In Asian Market, Nikkei eased 0.8 per cent. Kospi gained 0.2 per cent, and Hang Seng advanced 1.4 per cent.
