Indian Market: Sensex up by 1,352.89 points on positive global cues
Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) The BSE Sensex spurted by 1,352.89 points or 3.69 per cent to settle at 38,024.32, on strong Indian currency and positive global cues in the week ended Friday.
The Nifty 50 index rose 391.45 points or 3.55 per cent at 11,426.85.
The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 367.31 points or 2.48 pc to settle at 15,171.52. The BSE Small-Cap index rose 308.12 points or 2.12 pc to settle at 14,837.18.
Trading for the week began on a strong note. On Monday, the Sensex advanced 382.67 points or 1.04 pc at 37,054.10. The Nifty index rose 132.65 points or 1.2 pc at 11,168.05.
The key equity indices reported sharp gains on strong buying demand in index pivotals on Tuesday as the Sensex rose 481.56 points or 1.30 pc to settle at 37,535.66. The Nifty 50 index rose 133.15 points or 1.19 pc to settle at 11,301.20.
On Wednesday, the sensex registered a modest gain of 216.51 points or 0.58 pc to settle at 37,752.17. The Nifty 50 index rose 40.50 points or 0.36 pc to settle at 11,341.70.
The equity market remained firm on Thursday too, as the sensex increased by 272 points to 37,754.89 as buying was witnessed in Telecom, Bankex, Metal and Realty stocks.
At the end of the week, the Sensex remained strong for the fifth straight session, as it gained by 269.43 points to breach 38K level to 38,024.32. During the day, it surged by 500 points to 38,254.77 day high, later, it slightly came down and settled at 38,024.32.
