PATNA, May 23 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): A local court in Jharkhand, on Tuesday, handed out life imprisonment to former RJD MP Prabhunath Singh, in a 22-year-old murder case involving killing of a legislator.

The Hazaribagh court also handed out same punishment to two other convicts in the case.

“We will move the higher court. We have faith in the judiciary, God,” said Singh's lawyer Vijay Kumar Singh soon after the court delivered its judgment.

Singh who is known as a loyalist of RJD chief Lalu Prasad had been convicted for murder in the case on Thursday. He had represented Maharajganj LS seat twice in the past.

On Thursday, the court had declared Singh, along with two other persons, guilty of murdering then legislator Ashok Singh.

According to witnesses, the victim was sitting in the lawn of his official bungalow in Patna when some criminals bombed him death. The incident had taken place in July 1995 when Lalu Prasad was the chief minister of Bihar.

The verdict has come as a serious setback to Lalu Prasad as both his trusted men, Prabhunath Singh and Mohammad Shahabuddin, are now behind the bars.
