Kumar Mangalam Birla signals more US investments; hails $4 bn Alabama greenfield project

New Delhi: Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group, has voiced confidence about scaling up investments in the United States.

Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, Birla said, "We have a cumulative investment of about 15 billion dollars here in the US. We are by far the largest investor from India in the US. Ours has been a very good experience. We've been here for about 16 years, and we look to invest further going forward."

He also spotlighted Novelis' investment in a greenfield low-carbon aluminium recycling and rolling plant located in Bay Minette, Alabama.

The facility, under the Aditya Birla Group’s US-based arm of Hindalco Industries, is aimed at catering to surging demand for aluminium in beverage packaging and automotive applications.

"We have an ongoing greenfield project in Alabama, which is an investment of 4 billion dollars. That is the largest greenfield project we have ever invested anywhere in the world," he noted.

Commenting after US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick’s address, Birla added that Lutnick was "very positive" about the India-US relationship and the shared future of the two countries.

Lutnick, in a video clip from the event posted on X, said, "I spoke at the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum Annual Leadership Summit tonight. We have a great relationship between our countries. I'm optimistic for a trade deal soon that will benefit both nations."

The forum comes shortly after the United States announced an expansion of its security cooperation with India, with plans for intensified joint military exercises and deeper engagement within frameworks like the QUAD.
