Maruti January 2021 total sale moves up by 4.3 pc

Mumbai/UNI: Car major, Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL)on Monday reported a growth of 4.3 per cent in its cumulative domestic sales for the first month January 2021 at 1,60,752 units (1,42,604 units in domestic sales, 5,703 units in OEM supply and 12,445 units in exports) as against 1,54,123 units during the same period in 2020.

Maruti sold 25,153 units of Alto 800 and S-Presso as compared to 25,885 units in January 2020, marking a 2.8 per cent drop. And as for other compact cars like WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Celerio, Baleno, Dzire, etc., the company sold 76,935 units of such vehicles last month as compared to 84,340 units in January 2020.

However, Maruti Suzuki's SUVs and sedan managed to rack up substantial sales last month. Maruti Suzuki sold 23,887 units of utility vehicles like Vitara Brezza, XL6, Ertiga, etc. as opposed to 16,460 units in January 2020, marking a 45.1 per cent sales growth.

Surprisingly, even Ciaz, which was struggling to rack up sales for many months, registered 61.3 per cent sales growth, from 835 units in January 2020 to 1,347 units last month.
