Nothing Technology exploring export growth from India: CEO Carl Pei amid Trump tariffs
British smartphone manufacturer Nothing Technology is looking into increasing exports from India to navigate the uncertainty surrounding “Trump tariffs” and shifting global trade dynamics, media reports said.
According to an India Today report, the update came directly from the company’s founder and chief executive officer Carl Pei during an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on X, formerly known as Twitter.
When asked whether tariffs could impact the tech sector and Nothing’s business in particular—especially in terms of pricing and consumption—Pei replied, “Who knows? Things are changing every day.” On how the company is preparing to manage such risks, he added, “We’re looking into increasing exports from India.”
India remains a key pillar of Nothing’s rise
India has been instrumental to Nothing’s rapid growth.
As per Counterpoint Research, soaring demand for the Phone 2a and devices under its sub-brand, CMF by Nothing, propelled the company to an impressive 577% year-on-year growth in India in 2024.
The company also recently crossed $1 billion in lifetime revenue, with local assembly being a long-standing priority. Its latest models, the Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro, are manufactured in India.
Leadership moves reflect commitment to Indian market
Reinforcing its focus on the region, co-founder Akis Evangelidis was recently appointed as president of Nothing India.
“India is one of the most important markets for Nothing and we believe there is a tremendous opportunity to become a leading consumer tech brand in the country,” Evangelidis had said after his elevation. “India will play a pivotal role in the global smartphone industry in the years to come, and we're committed to accelerating our 'Make in India' initiatives and boosting domestic production. In 2025, we're doubling down by ramping up our investments in India and expanding our offline presence to 12,000+ stores.”
Upcoming launches to test Nothing’s momentum
As the brand gears up to unveil its next lineup, led by the CMF Phone 2 Pro on April 28, industry watchers will be closely monitoring its performance in the Indian market. The company is expected to build on this momentum ahead of the anticipated launch of its flagship Nothing Phone 3 in Q3 2025.
