Richard Stagg joins Rothschild as Chairman of India

| | Apr 22, 2015, at 10:26 pm
New Delhi, Apr 22 (IBNS) The Rothschild Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Stagg as Chairman of Rothschild in India with effect from May 1.

He previously served as British High Commissioner to India between 2007 and 2011.

Richard will work together with our Global Financial Advisory teams in India and around the world, providing M&A, debt and equity advice to Indian companies and international businesses looking to invest in the region.

Richard served as British Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2012 until the end of February this year, overseeing the transformation of the UK's presence from one which was largely military to an increasingly civilian role.

He also contributed to the achievement of a peaceful, orderly and broadly democratic transition from President Karzai to his successor - something unique in the history of Afghanistan.

Richard has held a number of other high profile roles during his career including Chief Operating Officer at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2003-2007) and British Ambassador to Bulgaria (1998-2001). He has a history degree from Oxford.

Commenting on the appointment, Robert Leitão said: “The Group is pleased that Sir Richard will be joining as the Chairman of Rothschild in India. He has deep knowledge of India’s interlinked and political business landscapes, and developed a strong understanding of the Indian commercial environment during his tenure as British High Commissioner. He will provide invaluable support to India-based clients and advice to businesses assessing investment opportunities in the country.”
